Sporting Aptitude Test
Coombe Wood School will reserve within its admission arrangements, 10% of its PAN for children living outside of the catchment area who demonstrate a sporting aptitude.
A sporting aptitude is the potential to benefit from the available sports facilities and coaching staff to reach a level in sport which they would not otherwise reach if attending a school without a sporting specialism. A child with a sporting aptitude is defined as being able, because of the opportunity of attending Coombe Wood School, to move closer towards a professional level of sport whether this be in competition as a player or competitor or whether they will excel as a coach, umpire, referee or physio. The key is that aspiring to this level is more likely to happen and more achievable because of being given a place at Coombe Wood School.
To help the School identify a child who has a sporting aptitude and to offer them a place after which time all other admissions criteria has been applied, we need to ask that people register to take a sporting aptitude test.
Sporting aptitude tests will be conducted on Tuesday 9th October, 2018 and Tuesday 16th October 2018 at Wallington County Grammar School, Croydon Road, SM6 7PH. You will be advised which date to attend. It will be administered on behalf of Folio Education Trust by an external provider. Candidates will be tested for sporting aptitude, which will test sporting potential in areas such as speed, endurance, hand/eye co-ordination, agility. It will not be a test of sporting ability.
Whilst no previous experience in a particular sport is required in order to take the test, it is expected that applicants wishing to apply under this criterion have a strong interest in sport and would aspire to participate fully in the sporting life of the School should they gain a place.
The deadline for registering an interest for your child to take the sporting aptitude test is Friday 28th September. Registration opens on 1st September 2018.
IMPORTANT - if you complete a sporting aptitude application form you MUST select Coombe Wood School as one of your choices on the CAF - if you have not selected Coombe Wood School on the CAF then your child will not be eligible to take the sporting aptitude test. Selecting Coombe Wood School on the CAF is the responsibility of the parent/carer and not the School.
